The 2 Monkeys Métis Duster Coat【TM13451】
Horse-drawn carriages were the dominant mode of transportation from the 19th to the early 20th century. Roads at the time were hardly paved, so dust was constantly flying around. Moreover, the area where the driver sat had no doors or roof and was completely exposed, so the driver was directly hit by the dust kicked up by the tires.
In such times, a long, lightweight coat like this was highly valued as protection from dust. Among American casual items, the closest in terms of purpose would be the leather car coat used back when only convertibles existed.
The 2 Monkeys' duster coat is based on a vintage piece owned by designer Suzuki.This garment is handcrafted from tightly woven linen, using patterns distinctly different from modern mass-produced items, making it an extremely elaborate and exquisite piece. We have tried to reproduce the details of such vintage items as closely as possible.
The buttonhole is a clue.
Details include the tucks at the hem of the back and the star-shaped embroidery above them.
