In 1952, Red Wing introduced the white, flat, cushioned Traction Tread sole to men's work and hunting boots for the first time. It was the 8-inch boot #877. This boot was an immediate success, and within a few years many variations were released, including the 6-inch #875.
The moccasin-type toe (moc toe) makes it easy to wear. The traction tread sole makes it easy to walk in any place and comfortable even when worn for a long time. In addition, the functionality and durability provided by the high-quality leather and sturdy construction made the #875, along with the #877, extremely popular with workers, and became a representative American work boot. Even now, about 65 years later, it continues to be loved as a representative Red Wing boot.
The #875 was made of brown oiled leather called Oro Russet from the 1950s until the 1990s, but over its long history, the color has changed several times, sometimes taking on a bright gold tone and sometimes becoming more reddish. In 2014, the leather was returned to its original orange-brown color, rich in oils, and the current Oro Legacy leather was created. The leather is made from raw hides with a particularly smooth grain, which are dyed after tanning without any painting on the grain, resulting in a leather with a natural texture. The more you wear it, the more it will develop and the deeper its flavor will become.
