The Light Zone Jacket was a symbol of U.S. Air Force officers for a long time.
The L-2B was developed as a light zone flight jacket, and its story begins just after World War II. It was developed as a successor to the A2 jacket which was used in large numbers during World War II. Since the A2 was made of leather, it was difficult to mass-produce and was an expensive jacket, so the development of a new light zone flight jacket made from a different material was rushed. It was only natural that nylon, which was attracting attention as a revolutionary material at the time, was adopted. Nylon's properties make it flexible, lightweight, and inexpensive, making it a revolutionary material that met the requirements set by the military. The lining was made of a rayon and wool blend which provided moderate warmth and slipperiness, further increasing the ease of movement when wearing it.
The first to be adopted was the L-2, which was the earliest model of the Light Zone nylon flight jacket, followed by the L-2A, a flight jacket in Air Force Blue, and then the L-2B. The L-2B was adopted after the Korean War to solve the problems of the Air Force designated color Air Force Blue being conspicuous in combat and absorbing sunlight at high altitudes. It was later decided to abolish it, and thereafter the decision was made to change all colors to silver gray. This silver gray model, which has the same color on both sides, was used until 1961.
The mid- and late-model L-2Bs were subsequently adopted, with an olive green exterior and an orange interior, the color of emergency relief. The mid- and late-model L-1970Bs no longer had the tabs for oxygen masks, and the shape of the pockets also changed. The L-36B was adopted until the XNUMXs, when the CWU-XNUMX/P, made of the next-generation flame-retardant Nomex material, was adopted.
This model is based on the early model just before the lining side was changed to orange.
It also reproduces the thin yet highly functional wool nap back rayon satin.
The lining is smooth and easy to put on.
Isn't this a lightweight and useful item?
